tomohiko tamura

Professor
Department of Immunology, Yokohama City University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan

Tomohiko Tamura received his MD and PhD from Yokohama City University. After specializing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as a clinician, he focused his research on the roles of transcription factors, such as the IRF family, in the development and function of myeloid cells. One of his early works, published in 2000, demonstrated that IRF8 promotes mononuclear phagocyte differentiation while inhibiting neutrophil generation. More recently, his research emphasizes chromatin regulation by transcription factors. He worked at NICHD/NIH and the University of Tokyo and returned to Yokohama City University as a Professor in 2009. He also heads the Epigenome Research Center within the Advanced Medical Research Center and previously served as the Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine (2018-2023). He loves listening to classical and jazz music using a sophisticated audio system..
