Group Leader, Cancer Inflammation and Immunity Group
Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, The University of Manchester, UK
Santiago Zelenay obtained his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Buenos Aires in 2002, where he worked on DNA vaccines. He then undertook his PhD in Immunology at the Instituto Gulbenkian of Science studying the origin and function of regulatory T cells. In 2008, he joined the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute, later the Francis Crick Institute, where he investigated innate immune signalling pathways that drive dendritic cell activation and T cell responses to infection and cancer. In 2015, he established the Cancer Inflammation and Immunity group at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. His group integrates fundamental and translational research to study the signals and pathways that dictate the establishment of tumour inflammatory environments that either promote or restrain malignant cancer growth, naturally or following therapy.
